As far as the public were concerned, 12.12 had become just another sale pushed by e-commerce sites. Same promos, same noise, same scroll-past behaviour. In a season where everyone was shouting discounts, Lazada needed something people would actually want to take part in. Not more deals. Something more fun.

Instead of pushing deals, we tapped into something Malaysians take seriously – state pride. So, we turned 12.12 into a nationwide showdown with a game all Malaysians grew up with! The “1 2 Jus Showdown” transformed a familiar rock-paper-scissors mechanic into a daily competition between states, where every move contributed to a larger battle for bragging rights.
Participants picked their state, submitted their daily “1 2 Jus” move and climbed a live leaderboard, turning passive shoppers into active players. To bring it to life, every touchpoint pushed one behaviour: play. Meme-led content, leaderboard updates and gameplay tutorials kept momentum high, while state and micro KOLs rallied their communities and drove participation across the country. Publishers amplified the rivalry, and high-impact digital OOH placements made the showdown feel unmissable at a national scale.
What started as a sale became a game. And what started as a game became a cultural moment.
